Device Configuration Backup

The Config Backup page keeps a version history of running configurations for eligible MikroTik NAS routers and OLTs. Use it to take an on-demand snapshot, review changes between versions, download a saved configuration or start a restore.

A configuration restore changes a live network device. Review the diff, confirm that you have another recovery path and schedule disruptive work for a maintenance window.

Access and Eligible Devices

Open Routers & Packages → Config Backup in the left sidebar.

The page is available to Group Admin, Developer, Operator, Sub-Operator and NOC roles that can enter the Group Admin or NOC network area. Every request is restricted to devices belonging to the user's group.

Only devices with stored login details are listed:

The device must be reachable from ISPbills at its configured address and port.

Take a Backup Now

Open Config Backup.
Find the device card.
Click Backup Now.
Read the result message. The page reloads when a new version is saved.

If the running configuration is unchanged, ISPbills reports No changes since last backup and does not create a duplicate version.

Automatic Backups and Change Detection

ISPbills takes scheduled snapshots of eligible devices and creates a new version only when the configuration changes. Your available schedule and retention may depend on your plan or service configuration.

Sensitive MikroTik Sections

Device configurations can contain sensitive network information. Limit access to backup history and downloaded files, and review a file before sharing it.

Review Version History

Click the device name or Versions on its card. The history page shows saved versions with their date, source and line-change statistics.

Select View Changes to open either a split or unified diff. The first snapshot has no previous version, so ISPbills displays the full saved configuration instead. Use the download icon or Download to save a plain-text copy of the latest or selected version.

Restore a Version

Open the device history and choose View Changes for the required version.
Review every added and removed line.
Click Restore This Version and confirm the action.

Restore behaviour differs by device type:

Device	What ISPbills does
MikroTik NAS	Applies the saved configuration through the supported restore connection. Settings changed after that snapshot can be overwritten.
OLT	Opens an assisted Terminal AI workflow to review and apply the required changes.

An OLT restore is an assisted Terminal AI workflow. Keep the panel open, review its actions and verify the live OLT configuration afterward.

Troubleshooting

Result	Check
Device is missing	Confirm its group ownership and saved username; for NAS devices, confirm the API username is present.
Could not retrieve config	Check address, credentials, configured ports, firewall rules and device command support.
Backup succeeds but no version appears	The saved configuration has not changed.
Scheduled versions do not appear	Confirm the device is reachable and contact ISPbills support if the schedule continues to be missed.
MikroTik restore fails	Confirm device reachability, credentials and restore access, then retry during a maintenance window.
OLT restore stops after loading	Reopen the restore and follow the prompted Terminal AI workflow; contact ISPbills support if it cannot continue.
