Custom Map Editor

The Custom Map Editor lets a group administrator document the physical network independently from the automatically generated topology.

Open Insights → Maps → Custom Map Editor.

Permissions

Only the Group Admin can create, move, connect, split, or delete custom-map records. Operators can use the operational Maps workspaces but cannot modify this map.

Add an asset

  1. Choose Router, OLT, ONU, Customer, Splitter, Switch, Cabinet, or Pole from the asset palette.
  2. Enter a meaningful name or identifier.
  3. Select Place selected type.
  4. Click the exact location on the map.

Select an existing marker to edit its name or type. Drag it to correct its location; the new coordinates are saved automatically.

Asset palette

Asset Recommended use
Router Core, edge, distribution, or access router
OLT GPON/EPON headend location
ONU Customer-side optical endpoint
Customer Service or installation location
Splitter Passive optical splitter
Switch Managed or distribution Ethernet switch
Cabinet Street cabinet, handhole, or distribution box
Pole Aerial cable support point

Connect assets

Select Connect by clicking assets, then click the upstream marker followed by the downstream marker. You can also choose From and To manually and select Create network link.

Recommended order: Router → OLT → Splitter/Cabinet → ONU → Customer. Select a link to split it with a new splitter or delete it. Deleting an asset also removes its attached custom links.

Custom-map assets do not change real Router, OLT, ONU, or Customer assignments. Use Auto Network Map to verify operational database relationships.

Edit or move an asset

  1. Select its marker or inventory entry.
  2. Change Name / identifier or Type and select Save asset changes.
  3. To move it, drag the marker to the correct point and release it.
  4. Confirm the updated coordinate in Map inventory.

Select a route line. Confirm the split action to insert a splitter at the selected point. Cancel that prompt to access the delete confirmation. Deleting a node removes all custom links attached to that node.

Use identifiers field teams recognize, such as RTR-DHK-01, OLT-DHK-01, SPL-02/18, CAB-MIRPUR-04, or the customer account username. Consistent labels make search and handover easier.
